Pelion named Icebreaker 2016 of the Łódź province
Pelion, the largest domestic company in the Polish healthcare sector, received the Icebreaker 2016 statuette in a regional edition of the competition. The jury ranked Pelion in the first place in the ‘Open market’ category in recognition of its exceptional commitment to solving problems of the disabled.
The competition is organised by the Polish Association of Employers of the Disabled to promote companies, institutions and private individuals that seek to help people with disabilities, are aware of the importance and necessity of their social and professional inclusion, and create new jobs and better workplaces adapted to the needs of this group of employees.
It was the ninth year that the Polish Association of Employers of the Disabled awarded companies which demonstrate particular social responsibility in this respect. The regional stage was resolved on September 15th 2016. From among 30 competitors in the Łódź province, Pelion proved the best in the ‘Open market’ category.
The certificate of recognition and a statuette of the Icebreaker 2016 was collected on behalf of the Company by Mr Jacek Dauenhauer, Vice President of the Management Board of Pelion S.A., from Ms Ewa Ściborska, the Disability Ombudsman at the Municipal Office of Łódź. Mr Dauenhauer stressed that the award is a great distinction, but it also means a responsibility to continue the work to support the disabled.
The Company was distinguished for creating jobs for the disabled and adapting their workplaces to reduce the effects of their disadvantage. Pelion employs disabled persons in various positions in its companies across the country. The Company also sources property security services from companies having the status of a supported employer which operate in different regions of Poland, indirectly contributing to employment of persons with a disability certificate. The DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation, established by Pelion in 2007, supports the sick in personal or financial difficulties and helps them to purchase medicines and rehabilitation equipment. The Foundation’s beneficiaries are persons with a disability certificate, including persons with visual or hearing impairment as well as those using wheelchairs. Under the ‘Together We Can Accomplish More’ grant contest, the Foundation awards aid funds to organisations that focus on assistance to people with various disabilities. The DOZ Foundation volunteers also include disabled persons, which facilitates their integration and cooperation to support others in need. The DOZ Marathon Łódź in Partnership with PZU, organised by Pelion, is open to the disabled. People using wheelchairs can take part in a 10 km race organised concurrently with the run. In addition, the runners organise charitable collections to raise funds which are then spent to purchase medication and medical materials for those in need. Every year, Pelion engages in the Global Dignity Day by organising meetings with young people at schools to talk about dignity and respect, especially for the disabled, elderly and the sick. Pelion’s DOZ Apteki Dbam o Zdrowie pharmacies and Natura beauty stores have facilities for disabled customers.
