Conference on safety and concert of patriotic songs organised for seniors by DOZ Foundation
Senior citizens were invited by the DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation for two events held in the last week of November. On November 26th, the Foundation hosted a conference devoted to the safety of older adults, and a day later, a concert to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence, during which the audience could join in and sing patriotic songs. Admission to both events was free.
The “Safe Senior” conference opened with a speech on road safety rules delivered by officers from the Prevention Division of the Municipal Police Department in Łódź, sergeant Adam Dembiński and constable Aneta Janczak. Fastening of seat belts is one of the key elements of safe travelling. Drawing on their personal experience, Janusz Nerga, creator of the ‘Buckle up’ social campaign, and Anna Cymmerman, a world-famous opera singer, talked about the importance of fastening seat belts. A paramedic gave the seniors useful advice about what to do in life-threatening situations. Małgorzata Kwiatkowska, a legal counsel, explained the legal aspects of road accidents, and talked about how not to fall victim and how to pursue their claims against the perpetrator. Robert Cichoń, an insurance advisor, discussed issues related to insurance policies and post-accident compensation. The conference participants had once again the opportunity to talk to Celina Maciejewska, the Seniors Ombudsman of Łódź, and find out how she can help them solve their problems. The conference ended with the performance by a music band Equality.
Each conference participant received a package comprising an ICE Card, an Envelope of Life, and reflector bands.
The conference was organised by the DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation as part of the “Microgrants for Seniors” project, which is co-financed from the Łódź municipal budget.
It was the eleventh conference organised this year by the DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation with older people in mind. Each event was devoted to a different health issue, key to maintaining good health and well-being of older adults. To ensure true value for seniors, the contents of all the meetings are developed by recognised experts and professionals, including physicians, dieticians, psychologists, counsellors, and physiotherapists. This year, the attendees could learn how to help their brain stay young and healthy, how to prevent strokes, keep the spine in good shape, eat healthily, prevent the loss of sight and hearing, enjoy life, and strengthen the immune system to keep infections at bay.
The day after the “Safe Senior” conference, on November 27th, the DOZ Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation invited seniors to sing patriotic songs together with the Twierdza Pamięć band. The concert was a part of the celebrations to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence. Patriotic songs, such as “Szara Piechota”, “Ułani, Ułani” or “My, Pierwsza Brygada” were sung during the concert. The band also performed their own arrangements. Admission to the concert was free as well.
