More than PLN 110,000 of support for mothers and children under the care of Single Mothers Shelters
More than PLN 110,000 was collected by the ‘Dbam o Zdrowie’ Foundation at the charity auction held on December 6th 2016 during the Evening with Santa in Warsaw. All proceeds from the auction will be used to help mothers and children under the care of the Single Mothers Shelters supported by the Foundation.
The Evening with Santa brought together many amazing people who shared a desire to help women and their children in need. Invaluable support in the form of charitable donations was offered by the event participants representing business, pharmaceutical industry, medicine, science and culture, who also took part in an auction featuring almost a hundred objects, including pictures painted by the children under the care of Single Mothers Shelters, works of Grzegorz Adach, Henryk Płóciennik, Iwan Kulik, Dariusz Fiet, Elżbiet Bocianowska and Marian Bocianowski, as well as photos taken by Adam Wajrak and Jacek Kusiński. The guests also bid on various sports memorabilia, including balls autographed by Polish athletes, such as handball players, and T-shirts signed by basketball player Marcin Gortat. The guests could also offer sums to win the privilege to meet Urszula Dudziak and Kinga Rusin, and to watch Wisła Kraków play a football match while sitting in the Presidential Box.
The meeting was moderated by Tomasz Kammel, with Urszula Dudziak as special guest. The evening was enlivened by the performance of Katarzyna Dereń.
All the proceeds will be used to help those under the care of Single Mothers Shelters in Wrocław, Łódź, and Poznań. The funds will be directed to a support and equal opportunities programme for women under the care of those shelters.
“We want to give those women faith in their abilities, make them more self-confident, and encourage them to take up activities that will help them become independent and turn over a new leaf. We are glad that more and more funds are collected during subsequent Charity Evenings as this confirms the generosity of our Foundation’s supporters”, says Elżbieta Łacina, Member of the Management Board of the ‘Dbam o Zdrowie’ Foundation.
The charity evenings, organised by the Foundation for six years now, each year bring together many participants representing business, pharmaceutical industry, medicine, science and culture. The funds raised during each Evening are used to help those most in need. To date, help has been given to seriously ill children from a children’s home in Łódź, persons who have had a stroke and who are suffering from incurable intestinal diseases, and little patients struggling with cancer.
The ‘Dbam o Zdrowie’ Foundation was established in 2007 at the initiative of pharmacists and with support from Pelion to address the fact that some Poles could not afford to purchase their prescribed drugs, and to tackle problems with access to medication faced by those in a difficult personal and financial situation. In 2008, the Foundation was included in the list of public benefit organisations. Since its creation, the Foundation has given out more than PLN 10m to charitable causes, of which more than PLN 1m was donated to those under the care of Single Mothers Shelters across Poland.
