Over PLN 1m donated to Single Mother Shelters by the DOZ ‘Dbam o Zdrowie’ Foundation
On November 27th 2015, the Stanisława Leszczyńska Single Mother Shelter, located at ul. Broniewskiego 1a in Łódź, held another meeting with representatives of the charity institutions which offer aid to women in crisis and receive support from the ‘Dbam o Zdrowie’ (DOZ) Foundation.
For over five years, the Foundation has been providing financial support to single mothers staying at such care facilities. This stable and long-term support meets one of the basic needs that single mothers and their children have, namely access to medicines and medical products. Helping those in need chimes with the values upheld by the Foundation and its founder, Pelion.
Since the start of the project, the DOZ Foundation has provided over PLN 1m to support single mother shelters. This year, the institutions will receive more than PLN 200,000, of which approximately PLN 50,000 will go to facilities in the Łódź province. The money will buy a year’s supply of medicines, medical products and milk for the women and children.
However, the Foundation’s support is not limited to giving money for medical products only. Throughout the whole year, the Foundation volunteers bring clothes, books and toys to people staying at the single mother shelters. Also, the facilities receive donations of vitamins, baby cereals and other food products. For many years, the Foundation has also been supporting the ‘Cereal for Baby’ campaign run by the Single Mother Shelter in Łódź.
As representatives of the DOZ Foundation emphasise, any help counts. Having no-one but themselves to rely on, the women living at the shelters need comprehensive support. Therefore, the Foundation has also launched a programme of expert guidance and trainings for women. This series of events was joined by actor Krzysztof Globisz, who in 2012 met with women staying at a single mother shelter in Kraków, and judge Anna Maria Wesołowska, who has visited the shelter in Łódź several times now. Inhabitants of the Łódź facility also show keen interest in musical encounters. The DOZ Foundation invited opera singer Anna Cymmerman, guitar player Jan Krzos and the First Guitar Orchestra of Łódź to participate in the events.
Invitations to perform at the meeting held on November 27th 2015 were accepted by Maria Mela, Karolina Benke, Agata Kawelczyk and Ewa Spanowska (students of the Vocal Faculty at the Academy of Music in Łódź, and members of the Student Club of Chamber Music Fans), who were accompanied by Dorota Brolik-Bekrycht on piano. They performed pieces by Moniuszko and Chopin and sang operetta duets. The audience also heard Barcarolle and a musical version of the poem ‘O Panu Tralalińskim’, prepared specially for children.
The DOZ Foundation provides support to 15 Single Mother Shelters across Poland, including in Łódź and Turów near Wieluń. In 2014, the facilities supported by the Foundation provided shelter to 343 children.

TheDOZ ‘Dbam o Zdrowie’ Foundation was established in 2007 at the initiative of pharmacists and with support from Pelion S.A. to address the fact that some Poles could not afford to purchase their prescribed drugs, an issue which had gone unnoticed in the past, and to tackle problems with access to medication faced by those in a difficult personal and financial situation. In 2008, the Foundation was included in the list of public benefit organisations. The Foundation helps those in need through special gift cards, which can be used to purchase the necessary pharmaceuticals and medical products at pharmacies. This ensures that the assistance will only be used as intended. Since its creation, the Foundation has given out more than PLN 6m to charitable causes.
