Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation raises over PLN 90,000 for child cancer patients
February 17th 2015 is a very important date for the Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation. On that day, the Foundation held one of its Charity Evenings in Łódź and raised a record PLN 90,720.00 in charitable donations. The money was given to child cancer patients under the care of a partner foundation ISKIERKA.
The Charity Evening brought together many amazing people who shared a desire to help children in need. Invaluable support in the form of charitable donations was offered by the event participants representing business, the pharmaceutical industry, medicine, science and culture, who also took part in a special auction conducted by Szymon Majewski, the ISKIERKA Foundation’s ambassador and its ‘friendly spirit’. Proceeds were used to help children suffering from cancer. In his speech, Mr Majewski shared how he first became involved in charity work and what makes helping others important to him. The stirring performance by opera singer Anna Cymmerman, an ambassador of the Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation, and the musical setting provided by a clarinet quartet made the evening still more memorable, putting those gathered in a merry and truly charitable mood.
The auctioned items included works by such artists as Zdzisław Beksiński, Grzegorz Adach, Henryk Płóciennik, and Iwan Kulik, as well as a unique picture signed by Polish President Bronisław Komorowski. The guests also bid on various sports memorabilia, including a T-shirt autographed by the Polish national men’s volleyball team, shoes and T-shirt of basketball player Marcin Gortat, a ball signed by the Polish national handball team, and a shirt and towel used by Jerzy Janowicz during the Wimbledon. The bidders were also keen to win a Gdańsk Bay cruise on the famous Malena yacht.
“Thanks to such initiatives as our Charity Evenings, we are able to raise funds to help young cancer patients,” said Elżbieta Łacina of the Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation. “When a family is faced with cancer, all its money is spent on medicines to fight the disease and save the life of a dear person. Nothing else matters for them. We are happy to help,” she added.
Jolanta Czernicka-Siwecka, President of the partner ISKIERKA Foundation, noted “Systematic assistance is of key importance, and we are able to provide it thanks to our collaboration with the Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation. This sort of help benefits the whole family – given gift cards to purchase the necessary drugs it receives real financial support in the struggle with their child’s illness.”
In her letter to those attending the event, Hanna Zdanowska, Mayor of Łódź, expressed her appreciation of the Charity Evening organised by the Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation: “I have the highest regard for people who have opened their hearts to those in need. As Janusz Korczak once said: ‘When a child smiles, the entire world smiles as well’.”
Charity Evenings are becoming a permanent fixture in the calendar of the Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation. With assistance from the founder Pelion S.A., the Foundation has been organising annual charity events since 2010. The money raised is always given to partner organisations, which use it to help specific groups of individuals. This translates into invaluable assistance in purchasing drugs and helps remove barriers in access to medication.

The Dbam o Zdrowie Foundation was established in 2007 at the initiative of pharmacists and with support from Pelion S.A. to address the fact that some Poles could not afford to purchase their prescribed drugs, an issue which had gone unnoticed in the past, and to tackle problems with access to medication faced by those in a difficult personal and financial situation. In 2008, the Foundation was included in the list of public benefit organisations. The Foundation helps those in need through special gift cards, which can be used to purchase the necessary pharmaceuticals and medical products at pharmacies. This ensures that the assistance will only be used as intended. Since its creation, the Foundation has given out more than PLN 6m to charitable causes.
